STUDENT GOVERNMENT

Letter from the SGA President
"My name is Amir Shah, and I have the privilege of being the Student Government President for the winter semester of 2007. On behalf of the Student Government Association (SGA), I would like to welcome you to The University of Sint Eustatius School of Medicine. The University offers the opportunity for a first-class medical education, along with numerous advantages, such as smaller class sizes, a connection with faculty and staff that can not be experienced elsewhere, all on an island that provides a lifestyle conducive to studying. There are many benefits to being a student at the University, and SGA will help to enhance them.

SGA is here to represent the needs and interests of the students, to play a positive role in recommending administrative policy, and to provide the opportunity for responsible student action and leadership. Student leaders should definitely be a part of our school’s success. Moreover, SGA works alongside the administration to promote academic integrity and honor.

SGA encourages the general student body to get involved, whether it is as part of a club, leadership of a club, or even with SGA itself. Increasing your involvement with university life will better your chances of becoming a more effective and successful leader.

You may be surprised to discover that The University of Sint Eustatius will provide you with a very diverse environment, with students representing many different cultures from around the world. This diversity is reflected in the various clubs that one may choose to join, with medicine-related clubs such as the American Medical School Association, religious clubs like the Muslim Students’ Association and the Christian Club, as well as cultural clubs, examples being Sankofa and the Asian Students’ Association. There are even a variety of sports clubs.

The SGA encourages extracurricular activities that help to create well-rounded people and inevitably better physicians. We hope that you will use a small amount of your time outside of the classroom to get involved. Along with your success in the classroom, your experience will be nothing but an advantage to you in the future.

If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to seeing each of you, and we wish you the best of luck in achieving your ultimate goal of becoming physicians."
